Help Danial and his family
Eight-year-old Danial Beckner, was taken to the ER in Grand Junction on May 2, 2024. He hadn’t been walking correctly for a couple days. A CT scan and MRI showed a tumor in his brain. He was immediately flown to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO. They did an MRI that found the tumor to be inoperable and cancerous. A biopsy was done to make sure. And this will be debilitating. The tumor will continue to grow and take away his ability walk, use his arm, etc. Mid brain glioma on the pons of the brain is the diagnosis, also known as DIPG on the pons. The tumor is surrounded by nerves. Danial started radiation therapy 5 days a week at Children’s Hospital in Aurora. It was 6 weeks long and was done by July 3, 2024. The radiation worked at shrinking the tumor. The medical bills are going to be horrendous, plus travel expenses. The parents had not been able to work as they were traveling back and forth to Aurora, CO from Fruita, CO. Danial’s parents have been taking him monthly to Children’s hospital in Aurora, CO since the end of radiation therapy.
As of April 16 this year, Danial’s tumor had grown slightly and his cancer had spread. They started radiation again on April 23 for about two weeks. Danial is currently in a clinical trial; ONC201 is a pill form medication that he takes weekly (research it if you’d like) to help expand his lifespan by up to two years. He’s in such good spirits and just being a kid. They are still going to Children’s Hospital in Aurora monthly for visits and every other visit is his MRI scan. In a couple weeks, he gets another scan done and we see what the medication is doing for him as well as seeing if his tumor has grown or shrunk. It appears that Danial’s health insurance is paying most of his medical bills and it is not as big an issue has expected.
On Aug. 2, Danial’s previous scan from 2 months earlier showed his tumor was measuring 12x13mm. The good news is that the tumor is now measuring 6x8mm. The bad news is, he developed a new tumor…at this stage in his prognosis, Danial was given only a few months. They first ask for continued prayers. We are asking for donations to cover co-pays, deductibles, travel expenses, and lost time at work. Thanks for any help you can provide.
A GoFundMe account at: gofundme.com/f/support-danial-beckners-fight-against-cancer has been setup by Danial’s grandmother.
There is also a benefit account setup at a local bank by Danial’s great grandparents. If you are so moved, to help with the financial expenses you can also send a check to the First Baptist Church of Cedaredge, PO Box 400, Cedaredge, CO 81413, which will be deposited into that Bank of Colorado account set up for the benefit of Danial Beckner. Thank you so much! Thank you to everyone who has reached out and donated already. Please pray for Danial and family. They cannot picture life without him.
